Moloaa Bay Villa, impressive home on secluded white sand beach

About the property

Moloaa Bay Villa, on the northeast shore of Kauai, is steps away from a secluded white sand beach!

Welcome to Moloa'a Bay on the northeast shore of Kaua'i. This is a large, secluded, pristine white sand beach that lends itself to coastal hiking, snorkeling, body boarding, surfing, shelling, swimming and sunbathing.

The beach bay is nearly ½ mile long. The name comes from molo a'a in the Hawaiian language which means "matted roots." Paper Mulberry trees (wauke) once grew so thickly that the roots were interwoven. The Moloa'a Stream meanders through the valley alongside Moloa'a road and empties near the north end of the beach, which is backed by high cliffs. Uphill from the bay is the Moloaa State Forest Reserve.

The Villa: This impressive home consists of three bedrooms, three baths, and 3,289 sq. ft. of living space sitting on pristine 2.5 acres of white sand beach frontage area. Moloa'a Bay was the site location for the TV pilot of "Gilligan's Island." This is where the USS Minnow and its crew originally shipwrecked. This may be as close as you will come to living on Gilligan's Island. Here is everything you ever dreamed Kaua'i to be! A perfect crescent sand beach and turquoise waters. Mystical Moloa'a Bay is located on the Northeast side of Kaua'i. Truly "Off-The-Beaten-Path" giving one the sense of an exclusive and genuine experience of the REAL Hawai'i. Moloa'a Beach has the least amount of rain of any north shore Kaua'i beach. It's perfect for swimming, snorkeling, picnics, sunsets and being away from the crowds.

The home is fully air conditioned. A wrap-around deck provides 2nd floor views of the ocean and coastline along with dramatic mountain vistas. The well-manicured Estate grounds are verdantly planted with Hawaiian tropical flora. A thick hedge at the beach edge provides privacy and security. There is an outdoor shower near the beach access path.

The Cottage: At the south end of the property near the entrance is a detached separate 2nd story guest house consisting of 994 square feet of air-conditioned living area with 1 bedroom + den and loft/1 bath. On your return from the beach, shower off in the new outdoor lava rock hot & cold shower.
The cottage may be rented separately or along with the main home. The location is very private and cozy, exquisitely furnished, and fully appointed. There are ocean views from the cottage. Here you can experience the casual Hawaiian elegance that typifies the spirit of Kaua'i.

**No Weddings or Events Allowed at this Property**

secluded beach front

Loved the property and would recommend to families with older children (5 years and up). The home was extremely clean and the location can not be matched. The beach felt mostly private. Not a place that tourists visit. The sides of the bay are good for swimming. There's also a nice hike from the beach. One recommendation would be to include a pack and play and high chair.

great house - practically private beach

We just returned from a 5 night stay at Moloaa Bay and what an amazing location! The beach was beautiful and except for Saturday, nearly deserted save for a handful of local fishermen who came daily. At low to mid tide, swimming and snorkeling along the edges of the bay was excellent. The center is too rough and the current is strong so avoid swimming there.
The house was lovely and well appointed with everything you could want in a kitchen and bathroom for an easy stay. The appliances were in excellent condition and having the washer and dryer is clutch as well as umbrellas and beach chairs and even a rake for the sand. The property is in need of some maintenance and updates. The screen doors are difficult to slide as are a couple of the sliding doors. Likely from wood swelling due to the humidity. There was only AC in the bedrooms - not the whole house but we mostly didn’t need it. One sink in the primary bedroom had obviously been cracked as it was ‘fixed’ with a gummy smear of caulk across the whole basin of the sink and no attempt was made to smooth it. The fixtures in the bathrooms are dated and hard to turn. Little things like this that just haven’t been attended to in some time made this a 3.5⭐️property with a 5⭐️beach. The other disappointing thing was that the trees between the house and the water were overgrown to the point that you couldn’t see the water from the main living space or the main part of the lanai. They should be cut by half as the view is spectacular from the corners of the lanai and the dining table but can’t be enjoyed in the main gathering areas. One other note is that again in the main living space and on the lanai there is not enough seating for a house that sleeps 7. We did love the beach so much that we would stay here again for sure. If you like privacy and want to avoid crowds... this is a gem!

gilligan's island vacation

We love - loved the home and the location is ideal! You are about 20 minutes in any direction from a nice small town (Hanalei or Kapa'a). The house has a beach for a backyard. You can walk through the shrubs and be on the beach in 1 minute. Rumor has it that the pilot for Gilligan's Island was filmed out back. Very cool! There is a nice coral reef that juts out into the lagoon. Our grown kids loved the area. The house is in great shape, albeit with a bit older decor. A few things could be fixed but no biggie. The wine fridge in the master makes some noise at night, it would be better located in the utility room downstairs. The property folks, Phoebe and Dawn, were amazing. They took our calls promptly and helped resolve issues, which turned out to be ESO. The kitchen has everything necessary to cook family meals. There is a bbq grill out front that worked really well. Nice touch! The washer and dryer are new. It was nice to do laundry while we were there. The house sleeps seven but there are two beds in one room. There are TVs in two of the three bedrooms but not the main living room. The air-conditioning works well in the rooms but the common areas are not air-conditioned. Still, it was never unbearable. Bonnie and Clyde (resident cat hunters) were super loving and a great addition. There are some beach toys in the utility room but you'll need to bring, or buy, snorkels and such if you spend a lot of time in the sand. The cost was more than we usually spend but it was a vacation of a lifetime and well worth it. We made amazing memories while staying here.
