beautiful location beach right off lanai

on downside, almost everything in house is 20 years dated, I have lived on Kauai in past, do not expect premium interior at a beach house on the North Shore, but for the amount of money charged, house needs a significant update

just another day in paradise

Part of me is reluctant to give Hale Kahakai a good review (because I want it all to myself) HA! Seriously though, if you're looking for a completely chill escape this is THE place...look no more! The slight criticism would be that the property and furnishings are a bit dated but easy to overlook when your eye is drawn to the surroundings.

The house was lovely. Lots of room, nicely furnished, good views of the ocean, nice and clean. Quiet location. 3/4 mile walk to snorkel at tunnels. The only downside for the house was trying to sit outside in the afternoon. Quite windy.

Excellent. We have stayed here previously and look forward to staying again. We forgot to sign the guestbook this year. Great Location. Great House: Everything you need for a beach vacation: steps from the beach, comfortable but not too fancy. Quiet. all the amenities you need. Have been staying in the area for 20+ years.

Over all it was very good and the property location and setting was very nice.....quiet and relaxing....would rent it again.
I don’t mean to sound petty, but when one is paying around $1,000/ night the experience could be improved upon with very little additional expense to the owner or property management. For example, the countertop dish dryer rack is cracking and there is rust where the the cracks have appeared....this would cost very little to replace, also the garbage disposal sink does not have a plug to cover the hole when not being used....without a plug very easy for a utensil to fall in unnoticed and destroy the disposal. Also most of the drinking glasses have a residue left over after washing due most likely due to the hard water. Rinse aid could solve this problem or simply replace the glasses when it appears....and it would be nice to have more than 1 champagne glass when one is celebrating their time on Kauai’s north shore. Buying 6 of them at a Walmart type store is not much money. And lastly as you know we had the interior entry light fall off the ceiling to the floor due to the fixture rusting over the years...no big deal outside of the crashing noise, but I noticed in the master bath room that hanging fixture is very rusted and could very easily crash to the floor or tub. Obviously salt air is very tough on these different fixtures and appliances and should be checked out more often. Front screen door needs to be replaced or adjusted for fit....gaps for bugs to fly or crawl through.
Would be nice if a electric juicer was available....there are good inexpensive ones on the market.
As I mentioned, overall the experience was very good and would do it again if available.....good times!

Terrific! So very much needed escape from modern world problems to the most verdant, gorgeous island ever! We had such a great time!!! Cant beat the location of this great home on an awesome swimmable beach!! We had the joy of meeting such wonderful, happy, gracious people in all our adventures out here. Hanalei, to us, is the worlds greatest beach town! This house is the perfect distance outside of that for quiet nights but yet so close for dinners and staples etc. Would buy this place if I could!!!

We just loved our stay! It was so apparent from the moment we stepped into the house that this is a home that has been loved by its family for generations. The energy of warmth and beautiful memories are palpable! The location and view are just as the pictures show. The beach was empty! We had the place to ourselves in the middle of summer! The home itself had four VERY comfortable beds, all the amenities you could need to eat in and prepare simple or more complex meals. Everything worked great! We felt like we found a secret and we really don’t want to tell anyone for fear of it getting ‘found out’. So, if you’re reading this and considering a stay, know that you’re lucky to have found it as we did!

We just loved Hale Kahakai (June, 2022) and will try and go back in the future. It is well appointed and well provisioned. Sitting on the covered lanai and gazing at the ocean with its lovely breezes was very special. It is quite close to Tunnels which is quite special on its own.
The seating is very comfortable from the lounge chairs on the lanai to the living room furniture to the four nice beach chairs provided. The washer, dryer, and refrigerator all looked new. The coffee maker is the drip type. The outdoor grill is propane. There are plenty of dishes, silverware, pans, and cooking utensils.
A minor issue was that the fan provided kept beeping. We bought another fan and left it in the master bedroom closet. There are a number of ceiling fans that do help but we felt that we needed something in addition. We only used the master bedroom and the bed was fine. However, the two twin beds are rather short and a 6 foot tall person would have trouble sleeping in them. You would want to request the option to have them converted to a king. The bed in the den looked more like a double than a queen.
We were there for two weeks and had a wonderful time. The best part was just sitting on that lanai. It really is magical. The sunsets are different every evening.

This house has 180 degree view of the ocean and faces north, so there is never a glaring sun. The beach is literally ten yards away. It is 10-15 minutes west of charming Hanalei, but is totally secluded. The neighboring houses are close, but not intrusive in noise terms and do not impede the views at all. The beaches in both direction are soft sand, which can give you a workout walking for any distance. A state park beach is about a 15 minute walk to the west and there are tide pools even closer to the east.
We had quite a lot of rain in December and the deck was our home; it was perfect for breakfast lunch and dinner, reading and napping in spite of the comfortable and roomy interior of the house.
I had to do some business printing and we cooked at home most meals. The business center (___808) and the Foodland Market in the Princeville shopping center right by the highway were both excellent; don't miss the poke.

What a great part of Kauai to spend some time. With the beach right off your deck, this house is perfect for spending endless hours exploring, walking, tanning or just staring at the waves. Stroll off the deck and walk down the beach about 500 yards is the incredibly picturesque Haena Beach for carefree swimming and snorkeling. New washer and dryer as well as some updated furniture but most of the house is due for an update...but its so easy to look past that and focus in on the great location. Would definitely stay here if we ever return.
