North Shore

Description

Lush, tropical foliage and spacious grounds surround this delightful, beachfront home. It exemplifies the tranquillity for which Kauai's north shore has long been valued. Vaulted ceilings add a spacious feel to the large living area which offers fabulous ocean views. Amid gentle breezes, the lanai is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy nature's impressive panorama and spectacular sunsets.

Just steps from your door, the beautiful, white-sand beach invites leisure activities. Have a picnic, build a sand castle, stroll along the extensive coastline, watch for playful dolphins off shore or simply bask in the sun's warmth and experience total relaxation. Dine in the privacy of your vacation hideaway or take a scenic drive to neighboring Hanalei about ten minutes away.

There is a nice variety of restaurants and cafes here as well as small shops which welcome browsing. A five-minute drive beyond Hanalei brings you to Princeville for additional shops and eateries as well as two challenging golf courses ranked among the nation's very best.

Activities nearby include seasonal swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, fishing, surfing, windsurfing, kayaking, sailing, hiking, sightseeing, flightseeing, shopping, tennis and golf.

*** Cancellation Policy *** Cancellations require at least a 30 day written or email notice prior to your check-in date for a full refund of your deposit. We booked this property on a whim because it was one of the only available on the North shore for spring break. There weren’t many photos, or a ton of reviews, but we decided to just go for it choosing location over being in love with the property (or even super confident in it). We ended up loving everything about our stay. The house is adequate, but not fancy. Perfect for getting a real island vibe and not a touristy/resort experience. We LOVED leaving the louvered windows open at night to hear the waves, and waking up to the birds in the morning. The views of the ocean and palms out front, and the lush mountains behind the property are great as well. This is our 4th trip to Kauai and by far our favorite stay!

Manager's Response

Mahalo nui loa for taking the time to share your experience! We’re so happy to hear that you ended up loving your stay. There’s nothing quite like falling asleep to the sound of the waves and waking up to the birds. We look forward to welcoming you back for more memorable experiences. Aloha!

We have vacationed on the North Shore Kauai since the mid 1970's. Waiohonu was a perfect location for our stay. We enjoyed privacy, comfort, walks on the beach, and beautiful sunsets during our stay. We enjoyed cooking meals in the well equipped kitchen or going out to many of the local restaurants. The customer service was outstanding. I receive a phone message from the management alerting me to an upcoming temporary power outage early the next morning due to electrical company maintenance for our general area.
My son and his friend went on a hike to Kalalau for a few days. The trail is less than a mile from the house. My wife and I went ocean fishing and caught dinner for quite a few days. Hanalei is flush with Hawaiian culture and food. The Tahiti Nui, Kalypso, and The Hanalei Dolphin were our favorites. In the past visits we drove to the south side of the island, but we did not want to spend that much time away from this beautiful property. We frequented the restaurant Opakapka that is walking distance from the house. Very good food including fresh fish. At the end of the day we looked forward to sitting on the beach in front and watching some of the most beautiful sunsets.

The north shore property is beautiful in every aspect. The pictures do not do it justice. The large private home, 20 steps from the ocean is a dream. My wife and I spent 12 days at the house with everything you could imagine; coolers, beach chairs, well stocked kitchen, and windows everywhere to see out. No air conditioning, however, with the windows open the house got cold at night enough to use covers in bed.

very nice, it is a nice location, the house does not have a covered lania therefore it is hard to sit outside on the rainy days, which you can have a lot of in the winter time on the north shore. The screens need to be addressed so that you do not have to deal with the mosquitoes. an inexpensive fix

We have come back to Waiohonu for about 10 years. It is now a regular part of our annual rhythm.... a place of peace, beauty, refreshment. The amenities are complete but simple...which is just how we would want them. Every morning at dawn, I take my cup of coffee to the beach and watch the sunrise. Almost every late afternoon, we walk west along the beach for the sunset. What can we say except that we have no desire to stay anywhere else!

First, Kauai Vacation Rentals is wonderful and trustworthy and takes care of anything you need. So be confident using this company!

As for Waiohonu... we found it to be pretty much perfect and will be back yearly, if possible. If you are looking for 'deluxe' accommodations and need A/C this is not for you. Which is not to say it isn't lovely.. it is!! It's just not 'fancy.'

The location is perfect. And private. While there are houses on either side, the yard is large and the vegetation makes it private. You can lay out in the sun and run around in the house and yard however you like, if you get my drift. The view from the house and the deck is amazing. And the beach is right there past the palm trees. The beach in front of the house is a perfect place to watch the sunrise and sunset, both stunning. You need to walk to the right about 3 houses to get to a perfect place to swim, which we did often. (There is a lot of coral right in front of the house.)

I was impressed by how well stocked the kitchen was with equipment. We hit Costco on the way from the airport and while we ate out a few times, as there are good places to eat in Hanalei, I also cooked a fair amount and, as a chef, I was never really in need. Excellent.

The living area is very comfy, as are both bedrooms. I slept well in the twin bed in the room with two twin beds. My friend won the coin toss and also loved the larger bed in the other bedroom. Again, impressed by the quality. No, there is no A/C but we were never uncomfortable as the breezes were almost constant. With all the screened windows open, the house stayed cool with a lovely breeze.

While we did a few excursions and hikes, I could come to this house for a couple of weeks and never leave and be very content. It's terrific!!

My family and I spent 9 days at Waiohonu and we enjoyed it very much. This was our first time at Waiohonu but not our first time on Kauai's North Shore. Having previously stayed over the years at the Hanalei Colony we enjoyed the privacy of a stand alone home right on the beach.

Great location on north shore beach within walking distance of Tunnels Beach along beachfront and resort dining four blocks away. Private, quiet location with great snorkeling entrance 100' to right. Calm waters are protected by offshore reef. House is old Hawaii style with ample kitchen, dining and living rooms. Cons: Master bedroom off living room has little privacy due to low adjoining wall. Second bedroom bath and shower are somewhat primitive.
Enjoyed short walk from nice balcony to beach. Beach chairs and umbrellas in closet. Only three beach chairs were at house first day and another broke the first day, but Kauai Vacation Rentals replaced both chairs the next day....THANK YOU FOR THE GREAT SERVICE GLORIA!! Overall a great experience and will book again!

First, let me say that Kauai Vacation Rentals is an absolute joy to deal with. They really showed the integrity and competence of their organization through this pandemic when flexibility was so important. Now on to Waiohonu... honestly, for what my wife and I want in this time of restoration and refreshment where we want the sea...we want mountains... we want privacy and simplicity with all the comforts... this place is perfect... this must be our tenth time here. The only reason we would stay anywhere else is because we had to. It is the perfect spot on the most beautiful island.

We’ve been to Hanalei many times and this was our best stay yet. This house has gorgeous views, is very private and was very comfortable. We did a lot of cooking and kitchen is well-equipped. Snorkeling just a few yards down the beach was easy - just grabbed our masks and fins when conditions were right. Only drawback to house is 2nd bed/bath not as nice or private as master. Worked out fine since we had adult children join - might be a bit awkward for 2 couples splitting cost.

North Shore Kauai is the quintessential Hawaii to us. This house is perfect for a stay on the jungly side of the island for two couples or a family of four. Private, quiet, and serene.Great snorkeling 50 yards down the beach. The grounds are beautiful and filled with bird song. The beds are very comfortable. Kitchen is well appointed. Many ceiling fans keep the temperature just right. We will definitely come again!

We were able to have coffee on the beach every morning, snorkel and see the most incredible coral and fish species, walk along a beautiful beach and have a gourmet dinner and drinks at sunset and never have to leave this house. We did enjoy hiking the Na Pali coastline to the Hanakapiai falls and drove around Kauai. The best vacation yet. We will be back.

We come to Kauai often. We have already booked our next trip and will be staying right here again. The house sits on a beautiful private section of the beach. It is walking distance to the hotel and restaurant. It has everything you need for a perfect getaway. We disappeared for ten days. Have no idea where the time went, but know we are returning home relaxed. We are sad to leave, but excited to return. Much aloha, Mahalo

We knew it was beachfront but the photos didn't do justice to the location... back lanai view is straight to the ocean- great place for morning breakfast or cocktail ...or just walk 40 steps and be on the beach with sunrise views of Hanalei Bay to the right & sunset views off Tunnels to the left. They say you should head to Tunnels - only 15 min beach walk ( or Kee) for great snorkeling ( correct) but just 75 yards to the right of your beach area is also great snorkeling ...esp on calmer days- teaming.
The home was very comfortable & well equipped for house supplies and beach stuff (4 great beach chairs) and the concierge that comes with the Rental was very helpful. In summer months it can be a tad warm inside (no AC - that's why 4 stars v 5) but honestly, the ocean winds & ceiling and portable fans make it comfortable.
10 mins to Hanalei ... great authentic beach town
10 min drive to Kee ...great hiking & beaches
Would definitely return

This is about our 6th or 7th time here. Love it! Snorkeled everyday - very accessible to the beach. Just relaxed and recharged.

Stayed here in September 2012 with my husband & daughter. House is very nice and is what you see in pictures. No surprises! Beach in front is a little rocky, but improves with short walk. Nice yard between house and beach! Was actually preferable to the beach. Arrived after dark and house was tricky to find. Recommend to arrive with some daylight for first time visit. WiFi was useless with iPads. Laptop connected ok. Want to visit again soon!
