great location, beautiful home
The reviews on this property are consistently high and the property did not disappoint. We loved the easy walk to the beach and to town (about 1/2 mile to Kalypso according to my walking app). We only used our car to go to The Dolphin restaurant (highly recommend) and a day trip to Lihue.
We mostly went to the beach and walked into town for dinner every day (favorites we walked to are Tahiti Nui, Kalypso, AMA and Terrace; love The Dolphin, but I'm not quite comfortable walking there). We ate breakfasts and lunches at home.
We are a party of 5: older couple with two adult children and partner. The house is well laid out. Everyone had privacy when they needed it. Lovely open living/dining/kitchen area. Kitchen well stocked (loved that the laundry room was off the kitchen instead of in an enclosure below the house as in previous rentals). Loved the shaded lanais on both sides of the house! Ceiling fans everywhere and extra fans in bedrooms were appreciated as it wasn't as breezy during our recent mid-late June visit as it's been for past visits (usually late May-early June).
Wifi was plenty strong for our son's partner who unfortunately had to telework a few times.
Overall, we had a fabulous time and would definitely book this rental again! We've been using Kauai Vacation Rentals for 15 years now. Very professional, very helpful.

great location, beautiful home
We stayed for a week with grandparents and kids. Loved the lanais and location. The place was spotless on arrival and well appointed with kitchen gear, surfboards, beach chairs and umbrellas, and coolers. Management was responsive and communicative. We had a wonderful time and the short walk to the beach was ideal.

absolutely perfect stay
We had an absolutely perfect stay here from January 11–17. The house is incredibly comfortable, spotless, and thoughtfully stocked with everything you could need. The location truly could not be better — just steps from Hanalei Bay and an easy walk into town, yet peaceful and quiet when you want to relax.
Everything about the home made the trip effortless. The layout is great, the beds are extremely comfortable, and the overall feel is relaxed but high quality. Being less than three minutes from the beach and about a five-minute walk into town was ideal.
Every part of the trip felt easy and enjoyable, from the house itself to the surrounding neighborhood. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience and would 100% stay here again. Everything about this trip was perfect.

perfect family vacation
We had a great time at Hanalei Makai Hale. The house was perfect for a family with the big porch and being tucked away off the road. The rental management company was also great. They were very curteous and on top of all the details. The house was very clean and comfortable. Walking distance to Hanalei town and great beaches. Just be warned if you go in August there is no AC And it gets very hot, especially in one of the rooms, we could not get it cool. We will definitely stay here again!

spectacular stay in wonderful hanalei home steps from beach
We enjoyed an amazing family vacation at this beautiful home in Hanalei. The home offers all amenities we asked for and more including proximity to the beach, an outdoor shower and walking distance to town. The welcome gifts were appreciated as were all of the household essentials. We found ourselves relaxing on the front lanai in the evenings and playing games. The home was spacious, spotless and well maintained. The beach equipment was a huge plus. We highly recommend this slice of paradise!

a perfect paradise
Our stay at Hanalei Makai Hale was an absolute tropical paradise! We’ve visited most of the Hawaiian islands and this was definitely the most beautiful place we have stayed so far. The house was very spacious. The location is perfect - just a short walk to town and Hanalei Bay. When we weren’t out at the beach, we spent most of our time on the lanai enjoying the beautiful views of the mountains and the ocean. We hope to be back very soon!

geat house, great location
The house was perfect for our week long stay in Hanalei with our family of 6. The house was close to the beach and town which made it very easy to walk everywhere. I have been fortunate enough to stay at Hanalei Makai Hale many times over the years, and it is always a pleasure! The house is warm, welcoming and perfectly appointed.
The rental team is incredibly nice and responsive and the owners go out of their way to make my stays wonderful. And they always are!

perfect rental in paradise
Fabulous rental, easy walk to the beach in both directions and into downtown Hanalei restaurants and shops. The spacious and attractive house was very well-equipped with everything we needed for a relaxing and very enjoyable stay. There was plenty of space for our party of five adults. We especially enjoyed having morning coffee, early evening drinks, and occasional meals on the wrap-around decks. We have stayed in lots of Kauai rentals over the years and this one was the best.

another trip back our paradise
Our first trip to Hanalei was in 2001 and we've been coming back almost every year since. We always get our bikes from Pedal and Paddle and that's our transportation around town. We hit the beach either at The Cape or the pavillion every day that we are here.
It's our "Happy Place" and will continue coming back!!!

6 adult family members stayed 6 nights. Wonderful home with everything we needed supplied. From what we saw during our visit this is the best location on the north shore. A few hundred feet from the beach and 10 minute walk to town or a 90 second drive.
Only drawback is no AC.

We keep the house fully stocked so that you can spend your time enjoying Kauai, not shopping for house supplies. As you observed, it is a two minute walk to Hanalei Bay, rated the second best beach in the State of Hawaii by the Hawaii magazine, and a 8 minute walk to the Hanalei Pier where you can watch turtles swim in the ocean. In Hanalei Town, you can enjoy food at many boutique eateries, like Pink’s Ice Cream and Wishing Well Shave Ice. Because the house has large screened windows in every room, plus ceiling and floor fans in every room, we choose to let the daily tradewinds cool the house as opposed to installing air conditioning and raising the rental rate significantly to cover the increased electric bill. great vacation!
We had a wonderful stay at Hanalei Makai Hale. It was perfect for a family of 4. The bedrooms and kitchen were well equipped with everything we needed. They have a few surf boards and snorkel gear for kids that were fun to use. Other outdoor gear you will need to rent or buy. The best part was that it was in easy walking distance to Hanalei bay beach, which we did everyday. When we arrived there was a fun welcome package from local shops, it made it special. Thank you for providing us the opportunity to enjoy your home.

perfect for our family
We came to Hanalei with my family with small children and my sister, dad and his wife. It was a lovely trip. We were able to easily walk to beaches and the downtown. The house had everything we needed. It was quiet and peaceful, yet close to everything.

a week at hanalei makai hale
This is an amazing place right near the Pavillions beach. It's set back from the road. Nice and quiet except for the roosters of course.
The house was very clean and well- furnished and nicely maintained and decorated. The landscaping is beautiful. The outdoor shower has plenty of hot water. Internet connection and smart TV were both good.
There were six of us (3 couples) and we had plenty of room and private spaces. The house had most everything you need for a good time at the beach - umbrellas, sand chairs, two soft top surfboards, boogie boards, sand toys and a cart to pull stuff to the beach.
Though not a great time of the year for snorkeling on the north shore, we did take a couple day trips to Haena/Tunnels and it would have been good to have some snorkeling gear.
It's a short walk into Hanalei Town for restaurants and entertainment.
We liked the large well-equipped kitchen. We had everything we needed except for a large pot. We called the property management company and they quickly had one delivered.
Only complaint: we had a few wasps flying around the property and some snuck in and caused some unwanted excitement. They should find and remove the nest for the next guests.
I highly recommend Hanalei Makai Hale. We would love to return again next year.

heaven on earth
This place is best described as Heaven on Earth! We enjoyed our stay very much. Kept busy enjoying the sights, Waimea Canyon, Na Pali coast, helicopter ride, hiking,.All very spectacular. For me it was the smaller things that stole my heart such as starting my day with a morning jog on the beach and a dip in the ocean. So glad there were yoga mats at the house. I got to start and end each day with relaxing yoga on the outside balcony while enjoying the views of the mountains and the sounds of the ocean.. We were a family of 6 adults and 1 toddler. The house was large enough and the room and balcony layout gave everyone enough space to spread out. The house also has plenty of sand /beach toys to enjoy. The lack of air conditioning was only a problem if you wanted to nap during the day otherwise the airflow through the house kept things comfortable. I can’t wait to go back!

This house was clean and quiet, had great airflow, was in a great location. And, it had three equally nice bedrooms with beds large enough for couples, which can be very hard to fine. Kauai Vacation Rentals is the best!

maybe the most beautiful place on earth
If you haven't being to Hanalei Bay before, it's probably the most beautiful place on Earth.
We stayed at Hanalei Makai Hale for 18 days in Nov/Dec 2022 with my two young children, and our parents.
The house was perfect for our needs!!
Three very sound-proof bedrooms with comfortable beds and clean linens. It also has a beautiful central living space with an open concept and vaulted ceilings.
Although the house is close to adjacent properties, it is surrounded by beautiful flowering trees, and it feels like you are in the jungle. You can sitting on the back lanai with nice views of the mountains. And the front lanai has a large outdoor table for dinner.
We comfortably had friends over to our place for dinner parties.
It is a 2 minute walk to Pavillion Beach Park, and a 10-minute walk up to the Hanalei Pier at Black Pot Beach --- which is a great calm beach even during high surf on the winter. Great access for surfing (either at the Point, the pier or at Pine Trees).
It is less than a 10-minute walk to the centre of Hanalei town. So it was great to be able to walk to the food trucks and shopping.
The owners were so generous! They left a Thanksgiving dinner in the fridge for us. It was a lovely gesture.
There are also tons of beach accessories at the rental - Tommy Bahama beach chairs, two soft-top surf boards, boogie boards, a kid's wagon, buckets, shovels and other beach toys.
This was a really nice perk for us!!
The staff at Kauai vacation rentals were good to deal with. When one of the fans stopped working, they had it fixed the next day!
Overall - I would highly recommend staying here without hesitation.
The only negatives: 1. Water pressure is low from all taps (this may be similar at other rentals). 2. Kitchen pots/pans could use replacing. 3. Kauai is very expensive (especially for Canadians). Although i think compared to other comparable properties, Hanalei Makai Hale is great

Watching the full moon rise over the Bay is a special time, as is sitting in the beach chairs and looking at Puff, The Magic Dragon across the Bay in the outline of the mountains. We are pleased that you enjoyed the Thanksgiving dinner we left for you. Return sometime over Christmas or New Years for more surprises from the owners. The water pressure is lower because the source of the water is a water tank back in the hills. We will look at the kitchen pots and pans when we are in the house in 2023. we love hanalei makai hale!
Over many years, we have stayed at four different properties on the North Shore. Hanalei Makai Hale is, by far, the best place we have ever stayed! It is so beautiful and comfortable, and the layout of the house is well thought out. We loved the close proximity to Hanalei Bay and we were on the beach and in the 81 degree water every day (in addition to visiting other beaches like Secret Beach and Lumahai Beach). We appreciated the nice collection of beach towels, chairs, boogie boards, and even a surfboard - all in great shape.
We also loved the treehouse feel, and the lanai - where we ate every meal, listening to the birds singing and chatting, and the geckos "chirping". Thank you so much for offering such a lovely, inviting, homey hale. We loved and savored every moment. And we will be back!

great place without a view (of the ocean)
House occupies the same lot with essentially an older (and less updated) twin. No beach view (as there is for the twin) but a nice mountain view out the back east-facing deck. The plus is that this house is very shaded and stays nice and cool in the evening when the sun beats on the other twin.
Otherwise, located 1/2 block from beach access and 5-10 minute walk to heart of Hanalei. All living space on second floor. Modernized kitchen and decor with a very nice large, shaded front deck with a brand new grill on it. Dinners outside every night. The older twin is a very nice place to stay. But except for the view, i liked this unit better.

Mahalo for writing a review of our house. You are correct; both houses were built by the same man after the hurricane destroyed the original houses on the lot. A slight modification to your review: there is a narrow view of Hanalei Bay from the small lanai with captain’s chairs off of the second bedroom. You are also correct that after we bought the house, we modernized the kitchen, bathrooms, added a pantry, etc to enhance the experience of our guests. Our house cleaner works very hard to leave the house spotless upon your arrival. Did you enjoy the gift bag that we left for you with gift certificates to multiple Hanalei merchants? We, too, eat every meal outside while listening to the many birds singing in the trees around the house. We hope that you will return to enjoy the tropical breezes and warm water of Hanalei Bay. Amazing. Perfect location to walk to town or beach. Plenty of beach stuff like a wagon and chairs - very nice touch. Clean with great views and porch space. Perfect for our trip. Would recommend highly.

Nice house in a great location. The house is maintained well and nicely appointed. The balconies and views made it a nice place to stay and enjoy, even if you didn't want to go anywhere.

lovely rental, stocked and comfortable
We loved this home, comfortable and well stocked. The beach was a quick walk. My only complaint (nothing to do with rental) is I've been visiting Hanalei for 36 years and it's becoming more crowded with each visit. Heavy traffic, hard to find parking and majority of restaurants do not take reservations. Most waits for table were approx. 45 minutes for a table. We decided to cook our last 3 meals in to avoid the crowds. Very quiet area except for the early morning Rooster call but didn't bother us.

fabulous home and location!
We loved our stay at Hanalei Makai Hale and plan to book again as soon as possible. The home is very comfortable and well laid out with great attention to all the little details and misc. supplies (cling wrap, zip lock bags, laundry detergent, etc.) The kids were so excited to be a short walking distance to Hanalei Beach and boogie boarding. The outdoor shower is great for after beach clean up. We can't wait to stay again!

perfect vacation home at an exceptional location
Our stay at Hanalei Makai Hale was perfect. The house was spacious, immaculate, updated, and thoughtfully stocked with every kitchen amenity imaginable. The location, right across from the beach, was superb. Best of all, Kauai Vacation Rentals and the owners were perfect hosts, providing everything we needed for a perfect stay, and always available if needed. We'll definitely be back!
