Description

Wake up in a Hanalei postcard at this extraordinary 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom beach home.

You may think you’re still dreaming when you open your eyes to picture-perfect views of Hanalei’s lush greenery and vivid blue skies outside your bedroom windows. Located in a residential stretch of ocean-view Weke Road, this upscale 2,600-square-foot home sits among North Shore estates valued in the tens of millions.

Tucked into a tropical grove, the three-bedroom, two-bathroom house is a quick stroll from the velvet sand and gentle surf of Hanalei Bay. In the distance, look for the serpent-shaped mountain that inspired the song, “Puff the Magic Dragon.” You’re also easy walking distance to Hanalei’s charming downtown. There you’ll find everything from artisan coffee and chocolate, to sophisticated, healthy cuisine, to classic island cocktails at the iconic Tahiti Nui, a favorite local lounge and a location for the George Clooney film, “The Descendants.”

At the home we call Hanalei Makai Hale, you’ll be immersed in beauty, indoors and out. Ascend the stairs to arrive at a custom, beveled-glass door that hints at the treasures inside. The foyer’s impressive glass sea sculptures introduce the carefully curated art collection, including original island paintings, carvings and tile work. The breezy lanais (what some call the covered porches) will beckon you outdoors into comfy chairs for morning Kona coffee, an afternoon lilikoi fruit smoothie or chilled wine at sunset, the better to watch the sky turn vivid crimson.

The completely updated home’s open floor plan encourages an easy flow between the kitchen, living room and dining room. Numerous lanai sliding glass doors and louvered windows welcome cooling trade winds and filtered daylight. Spacious bedrooms on opposite wings provide ample privacy for groups of couples, friends or families of up to six people.

You may need to draw straws to select bedrooms. The master suite has a king-sized bed, walk-in closet, dressing area, adjoining bathroom and access to the backyard lanai. From the front guest room’s queen bed and private lanai, you can gaze at the ocean or every-shade-of-green terrain. The second guest bedroom offers cozy quiet and two twin beds that can convert to a king.

On the breakfast bar, find a gift basket of local artisan chocolate, Hawaiian spices and discount coupons that will ease your introduction to favorite Kauai treats and adventures—ice cream, bike rentals and a catered dinner. Outside, borrow the boogie boards and beach toys, or treat yourself to a hot-water rinse in the enclosed open-air shower.

In no time, you’ll be living like a local, stocking up on impossibly fresh sushi and shopping the farmers markets for exotic fruits and vegetables that you stash in the Sub-Zero refrigerator. With a kitchen outfitted for the most discerning chefs, you’ll be turning out quick meals on the barbecue gas grill with ease.

In anticipation of our guests’ every need, the electronic front door locks require no keys to pick up, share or return. The kitchen is fully stocked with shopping bags, basic seasonings and cleaning supplies. The laundry room features an oversized washer, dryer and large pantry. Ease into adventures on land and water, guided by our booklet that lists favorite excursions, restaurants and shopping destinations. Throughout the home, labels and instructions ease familiarity with the house and appliances. You won’t lack for indoor entertainment with a large flat-screen television and high-speed Wi-Fi.

Inside and out, you’ll find the kind of cushiony furnishings that cradle you after a long day of surfing, swimming, hiking or power-shopping. Though the home is designed and maintained to five-star hotel standards, the inviting atmosphere and casual decor ultimately relaxes every guest into a blissful island existence. Why don’t you see for yourself?

Our family had an amazing time in Hanalei. The house was less than five minutes from the beach, which the kids just loved. Cute little town, activities all over the island if you feel like driving a little ways. Very, very relaxing and the food we had was decent too. I would come back in a heartbeat!

My family had a wonderful time at the house over spring break. The house is located near the public beach access to Hanalei and walking distance to downtown Hanalei. Parking easily accommodated our 2 SUVs and there was plenty of street parking. The house is very roomy which was great for my 4 year old daughter to run around. I prefer renting a house over a hotel room when you have kids because there is so much more space. On the first level under the house, there are beach toys, boogie boards, beach chairs, and beach umbrella that we took with us on the beach (plenty of beach towels in the house as well). Hanalei Bay is shaped like a crescent and very forgiving for catching waves so I had a blast boogie boarding (I wish I brought my boogie boarding fins from home). The beach is also gorgeous and I enjoyed just sitting on the beach with a beer. The house has 3 bedrooms with a very large master bedroom with a private bath and walk in closet. The two other rooms are smaller but have ocean views. There are decks surrounding the house and we spent many hours drinking wine and other fine beverages as we watched the waves on the beach or marveled at waterfalls on the mountain when it rained. There are plenty of umbrellas at the house so there is no need to bring them from home (it does rain a lot). The house is very nicely furnished with all the comforts of home. You just need to buy food and drink from Foodland in Princeville (we made the mistake of getting a ton of stuff at Costco and ended up leaving most of it unfinished). A lot of small necessities were already at the house (bug spray, laundry supplies, zip lock bags, etc.).

There are plenty of food trucks to try out in Hanalei (the Garlic Shrimp at Trucking Delicious is fantastic) and some hip and trendy restaurants that are open late (Bar Acuda was our favorite place to have dinner).

Kauai Vacations Rentals (KVR) was great. They have a concierge service that will make arrangements for you. Sherri Orr spent time with me to understand what we wanted to do and booked us a helicopter adventure with Sunshine Helicopters (which I highly recommend) and VIP front row seats to the Luau Makaiwa.

Overall, the Hanalei Makai Hale was a great experience for my family and we plan to return in the future.

This is a gorgeous home conveniently located across the street from Hanalei Bay.  It is within walking distance of the Pavilion, the pier and the quaint Hanalei town.  This home is well-maintained with recently painted interior and beautifully remodeled bathrooms.  It has 3 lanais (balconies) which open to the interior with sliding glass doors and windows providing spectacular views of Hanalei Bay, the lush Na Pali coast and the front garden.  The high vaulted ceilings and long granite counter opens the kitchen to the dining and living room areas and accommodates a larger group comfortably.  I would definitely recommend this property!

The property was wonderful inside and out. We spent soo much time out on the deck. (decks all around) One night we grilled steaks on the deck. Hanalei was very nice, with all the little shops and restaurants to chose from. Easy walk to downtown, or the beach. Convenient outdoor shower for when you return from the beach. Soo much to do and see on the island we couldn't do it all in our nine days. Looks like we need to go back.

I can't say enough about this property...we made so many great memories during our stay. We were there for the big storm and really enjoyed sitting on the lānai, watching the rain, and seeing all of the waterfalls on the hills. Loved being able to walk to town, shop, and have so many cute eateries to choose from! Thank you for allowing us to enjoy your beautiful home!!!

Back again for a wonderful vacation in Hanalei. We always enjoy returning to the Hanalei Makai Hale vacation rental house because the owners are continuously improving the property. It’s fun to see what’s new!!
This house is always immaculate and the kitchen is stocked with everything you could ever imagine needing… just like home. Fresh paint on the interior walls and we thought they were perfect last year when we visited.
New living room furniture, very comfy and we love the sheer and airy white curtains between the living room and the Lanai.
The artwork in this house is incredible! This year there was a new fish sculpture done in glass in the entry, it is so beautiful! We noticed new art in the bedrooms as well.
Last year the kitchen was completely remodeled with Quartz counters, awesome backsplash and a very elegant pocket door (to name a few). This year we noticed the new matching black dishwasher which completes the kitchen.
The furniture on the Lanai is very comfortable and we enjoy sitting out there listening to the birds. All of the plants on the property are maturing and we noticed a couple of new Orchids in the palm tree. We’re anxious to see how they are when we return next year.
The location is just perfect. Just steps to beautiful Hanalei Bay and many shops and restaurant’s close by in downtown Hanalei only a few minutes away.
We are looking forward to our stay next year as this feels like our home away from home.

We loved this house! So well equipped and maintained. We hosted a small dinner party and it was a lovely night with good food, tropical breezes and Hawaiian music. The house is so comfortable for entertaining and also for returning to after a day of experiencing the island. There is so much great local food from both the shops in Hanalei and the Farmers Market. Staying at this house is an experience we will long remember.

Ideal family vacation home opposite the beach and a short walk to town. The house is recently updated with lovely views from the back and side windows, very well appointed with a fully-equipped kitchen and a light, open feel. We had a great stay and would highly recommend it to others.

My first stay in this house was a few years ago and since then I have returned to it 2-3 times. I love this house. It is open, airy and easily accommodates 6 adults comfortably. Each time I go back the owners have added more improvements; upgraded both bathrooms, new living room furniture, new twin beds, wall art, a beautiful kitchen counter top and glass tiles on the kitchen walls. The ocean is right across the street, and it is a very short walk to the restaurants and shopping in Hanalei. All of North Shore Kauai is such a beautiful, unique place to vacation. Can't wait to return!

We absolutely loved this house! Our group was 4 adults and 1 baby for 8 days, and the house was perfect for us. Location-wise, it can't be beat -- steps from the beach, but still tucked away for privacy. We were a 5ish min walk to town (shops, coffee, grocery & restaurants). Last time we visited Kauai, we were in Princeville, but staying in Hanalei was a much different experience -- and we loved it. Laid back, easy-going and comfortable. Also, close to hiking the Napali Coast or heading down to kid-friendly Anini Beach.

All of the living space is on the second floor. There's a convenient outdoor shower downstairs so you can wash off the sand and mud you accumulate when you're outside all day. Beautiful lanai with a BBQ/grill in front of the home with a table & seating for six. We spent a lot of time out here in the morning and evenings -- enjoying breakfast & dinners. There's another lanai in the back with a beautiful mountain view. Inside, the floor plan works really well for families. Nice-sized master bedroom with a big closet & bathroom (walk in shower) on one side and then two bedrooms & another bathroom (tub) on the other side. There are small patios off each bedroom, and the entire interior seems like it was recently remodeled. Furnishings are comfortable and plenty of storage space. Nice sized table off the kitchen to eat indoors as well. Beautiful kitchen and laundry area. Lots of towels (bath & beach) in the hallway linen closet. We had everything we needed for 8 days.

This might seem minor but we found it to be incredibly convenient that the house has a keypad instead of house keys -- it meant that our group could easily plan activities and make adjustments without worrying about who was carrying the only set of keys.

We can't wait to go back!

This pretty, pristine and perfectly located Hanalei house helped us realize our dream tropical-island vacation. For a group of first-time visitors to Kauai, having such a well-outfitted home located steps from the beach added incredible ease to our trip--a girlfriends' getaway.
We could walk to the awesome beach in less time than it takes to find your car at a mall. Even better--the owners included a welcome basket of artisan chocolate, spices and discount coupons to guide our stay, plus a curated list of great local dining and shopping spots.
Everything inside the house looked new, felt meticulously maintained and anticipated a visitor's needs, including labels and instructions everywhere. Add to that the cool electronic front door lock that meant we didn't need to pick up or keep track of keys.
Three generously sized bedrooms gave us ample space and privacy, while the open floor plan provided a nice gathering space for hanging out, making meals or watching movies. The arrangement of a master bedroom and bath on one wing, and the other with two bedrooms with a king and two twins makes it a great family or multi-generational choice, too.
To be honest, previous Hawaii trips to Oahu and other islands felt more like a frustrating slog through Any City, USA, but with more palm trees. Located really close to the waves and Hanalei's shopping district, the house became the centerpiece of our completely changed impressions of Hawaii. We woke up to pink-purple sunrise views framed by exotic tropical plants. We had leisurely breakfasts of farmers' market tropical fruit and Kauai coffee in the kitchen, which had everything you ever needed--pro knives, trays, BBQ utensils (and an outdoor grill) and wine glasses. We picked up sushi at the fish market, walked a few blocks for ice cream (and used the $5 discount coupon), toted the house's boogie boards to the beach and rinsed in the outdoor shower.
A well-supplied laundry room meant we packed lighter and returned with suitcases of clean clothes.
When we discovered the joys of sipping wine and eating sushi on the lanai (the classic open-roofed porches that surround the house), it was tough to get us to leave the cushiony outdoor chairs.
More surprising, the house is filled with original art that added to the experience of being in Hawaii. After touring several luxury resorts on the island, we all agreed that this house was more luxurious and a much better value and experience. We're already planning a return!

We had a wonderful time staying in Hanalei and this house is the perfect location for beach and town. You can walk to each in just minutes. There are so many things to do and Kauai Vacation Rentals gave us great advice on Farmers Markets, etc. This house is amazing and so open and airy with all of the large windows and sliding doors. We spent a lot of time on the outdoor decks because the furniture is so comfortable. But our favorite spot was sitting in the two rocking chairs watching the sun set over the bay.

We loved the large front deck on the ocean side of the house with the wonderful table, chairs, barbecue and outdoor ceiling fan. We also lounged on the comfortable cushioned patio chairs on the large mountain deck. The master bedroom suite was so comfortable with the king sized bed, ceiling fan, ample clothes storage, and private entrance to the deck. If I had a magic wand, I would add a sitting chair on the private deck on the ocean side of the house.

This house felt like a home away from home. It is absolutely gorgeous both inside and out. A few of my favorites were the view of Hanalei Bay from the lanai, the vibrant colors throughout the house, the beautiful artwork, the spacious layout, the well stocked kitchen, the large lanais, and the PERFECT LOCATION! We have two young children, and we were easily able to get them back and forth from the beach each day without needing a car or stroller. I found the beds to be incredibly comfortable as well. You can tell that the owners of this home have worked hard to make it a special place to stay! I can't wait to stay here again!!!

This is a beautiful home just steps from wonderful Hanalei Bay. The house offers everything you can possibly want for a wonderful vacation - comfort, ease, beautiful surroundings. All of the rooms are so inviting and spacious, and the kitchen has every convenience one could want. The two large lanais (one on either side of the house) are beautifully furnished for eating, relaxing, entertaining - the perfect places to start and end each day. The bedrooms are very comfortable (including the beds!) and well furnished with plenty of linens and towels. There are 2 king size rooms and 1 with twin beds; the house easily accommodates 6 people comfortably. Downstairs there is a great outdoor shower with foot shower, and tons of beach toys, umbrellas, chairs, etc. And it's just a short walk to the stores and restaurants in the town of Hanalei. I love this home and location - it was everything I hoped for and I'll definitely stay there again very soon.

Thank you so much. The special touches in the house were so nice and mahalo for the gifts that we received when we arrived. New curtains will be a nice touch in the living room.
