22 years ago we stayed at Hale Pua Kai and we finally made a return visit. Just as perfect as we remembered— although there were clearly some upgrades to the property that we truly appreciated. So happy to have a big, clean tub for my daily hot soak! The mattress on the huge king bed was SO comfy. Don’t know why we waited so long to return!

We had a very relaxing stay at this lovely house. Quiet neighborhood, easy walk to the beach. We enjoyed the lush vegetation of the area, away from any busy commercial neighborhood.
House was clean, comfortable and had a well appointed kitchen. The rental agency was easy to contact when we had some questions.

It was pretty much as described...a cottage in the rain forest. North Kauai is beautiful, but be prepared for rain. On a rainy day the cottage is especially dark. It can be quite cool inside on those days, too. Previous guests mentioned the mgmt. company as being unresponsive. We found this to be true, too, after the booking was completed. TV remotes still needed batteries, all the outdoor candles lacked wicks, and our texts went unanswered. Also, as previously mentioned furniture looked tired. Bed, however, was comfortable.

This sweet little house is a gem. Old school, Hawaiian charm. We loved the privacy and the casual setting, the outdoor shower, the beach umbrella and chairs, the covered porch in the rain, and most of all the LOCATION. We walked to the beach every day, and even walked to Haena State Park to hike to Hanakapiai. It was awesome.

That said, there are some big things to note. The place does not have a hotel room safe, which it needs and we requested to no avail. The old louvered windows (very necessary for ventilation) just don’t lock securely. We took our valuables (iPhones, wallets, iPad etc) to the beach every day, which meant we could not snorkel together. It was a major bummer. From personal experience (at a different rental on the same street) we no longer leave valuables unlocked or unattended. The tv remote failed a few days in to the trip, and it was never really addressed. We only missed tv a little for news. But it might have mattered to someone else a bit more. The house also needs just a deep cleaning/detailing. The bedroom drapes need cleaning, or better yet replacing. The bed and pillows need a refresh too. And it does not have a comfortable living room. There are only chairs with an ottoman and a chaise. Neither are comfortable, and you can’t cuddle up with your companion. And the upholstery is very tired. We covered it with the extra cotton blankets in the armoire, after we first washed them. It wouldn’t take much to upgrade the house just a little bit. It needs it. It deserves it. It’s a special, special place. We had fun imagining how great the simple improvements would make it..

My husband and I have rented many, many homes in Haena over the last 15 years. I started out as a backpacker to Kalalau and camper at Haena Beach Park in 1985. It’s the most magical place on earth, and we leave our hearts there every time we have to depart. Mahalo to the owner of this home for letting us enjoy Haena.

This was a beautiful property, and a perfect "home away from home" for this couple; idyllic and private, and in a nice neighborhood. Very easy access to the beach, and we enjoyed most meals at home with the full kitchen. Kauai Vacation Rentals was perfect in every way: efficient communications, instructions, and accommodation. Wow. Imagine waking up surrounded by beautiful jungle foliage, wonderful birds and beautiful light. Our stay was magical. We loved the covered porch area in the rain and as a shaded escape. The entire cottage feels like it’s out of a fairytale and that you’ve stepped back in time.
This peaceful space allows you to immerse yourself into the true meaning of island time and relaxation. If you want to escape the hustle and bustle this is the place to do it.5

Deep in the jungle, far away from the world, Hale Pua Kai is the perfect retreat from the world for 2 guests. We have visited many times and will continue to. Its a 10 minute drive to Hanalei for shops, breakfast lunch or dinner but if you’re not inclined, you never have to leave. The beach is right across the road and from there you can hike in either direction for your perfect spot. End of the road is nearby too. But you need a reservation to visit Ke’e beach during the day or go on the trail. Plan ahead...

Hale pua kai has everything you need for a real vacation- natural beauty everywhere, the best napping soundscape in planet eartg, gentle trade winds, sunny days, starry nights. This is pure soul rejuvenation.

We have been here 2 other times, and when we arrived, very tired, it was just like home!! We love this house, very quiet, all the amenities that you would need, (Loved the Tommy Bahama chairs and umbrella!!) and we really got to relax. Thank you to the owners for allowing us to use their house.

We were introduced to Hale Pua Kai some years ago while staying in Ha'ena at another KVR property. Our friends were staying there and invited us to dinner. We were charmed by the cozy feel of the house with its unusual Polynesian fan system in the living room, and the lovely Hawaiian decor. We stayed there ourselves this trip and enjoyed it immensely. The house is cool and pleasant, with two comfortable lanais that look out onto the front garden. The kitchen is well stocked with utensils and pots and pans, and there is a beach umbrella and a couple of beach chairs for guests to use. The bedroom is spacious, and the bed was huge and comfortable. The beach is steps away from the house and we enjoyed taking an outdoor shower after hours of snorkeling. I like the house because it doesn't feel like a rental; it's more like staying in someone's private home. It's the perfect size for one person or a couple. Highly recommended if you want a quiet, peaceful, genuinely Hawaiian experience.

Have we enjoyed our stay here? Have we ever! Everything was perfectly organized, the wonderful house was impeccable and well equipped, the whole stay was just FUN. The only minor drawback is that you can't see this wonderful ocean from the front lanai... There are so many things to do and see near and far. E.g. don't miss the beautiful Limahuli garden, or the Ke'e and Tunnel beaches with their sunsets, not to mention the Na Pali coast by land, sea and air. Etc., etc... Go there!

Perfect Old Style Hawaiian Bungalow

House is typical bungalow, very nice. One main room, bed and bath with 3 lanai spaces so there is lots of air flow and ways to be outside. one lanai is screened with futon if one wanted to sleep there. Kitchen nicely equipped (no dishwasher but easy to wash dishes). Gardens are lush and surround house. With lots of vegetation close to house you are protected from street but makes house a bit dark during the day. Highly recommended for a couple.

We chose this lovely home as our destination for our wedding and honeymoon. The rental was perfect for a romantic getaway. All the amenities one could need. Unfortunately due to extreme rainfall we had to be evacuated. Then thanks to Lucy, we were relocated to another wonderful condo and our wedding was saved!! I can not say enough kind things about Kauai vacation rentals, Lucy and their dedication to customer service. Don’t hesitate to rent one of their wonderful places in Kauai!!

Very nice place makes you feel like a local. My wife and I really enjoyed staying here. Lots of covered porches and all the amenities one could need. There’s a charcoal BBQ for those who like to stay in and cook. Outdoor shower for after visiting the beach which is only a couple minutes walk to get too. Washer and dryer on site if you need do laundry during your stay. We found the bed to be very comfortable as well.

We loved our time at Hale Pua Kai. The house is very comfortable and cozy, and surrounded by lovely trees and shrubs that make it feel very private. We ate out on a delightful covered lanai off the dining room. Best of all, it is a 3-minute walk from a lovely beach. A nice walk of less than a half mile along the beach takes you to gorgeous Tunnels and Haena beaches. The house is in a quiet residential area (many vacation homes), including families. Out of the hustle and bustle of Hanalei, but only a 10-15 minute drive, and close to many wonderful destinations. Beautiful area. 
Kitchen is fully equipped for cooking with a charcoal grill on the porch (had to buy charcoal), but we like charcoal! We enjoy cooking.

We loved staying at Hale Pua Kai in Haena! The home and location were beautiful and quiet. The grounds were lovely. We stayed nine nights and enjoyed fixing dinners with fresh fish from the fish market in Hanalei. We appreciated the fully screened features, wood floors, and floor and ceiling fans. The kitchen was well stocked with appliances, pots and pans, utensils, etc. The washer and dryer came in handy. Plenty of linens and towels. Nice TV and excellent wifi. There are many places to sit here...inside and out... to enjoy the sounds of the birds in the morning as the sun rose, or to have meals on the patio. A sandy beach is about 200 yards of a walk from the home, and Tunnels Beach (good for snorkeling on calm days) is just a bit to the west. Overall, a fun and romantic getaway home.

We loved every minute of our time here. So glad we chose well. From our first stop at the kvr office to pick up our keys everyone had been so nice. The small town feel of the far north shore was perfect for us. We brought along a travel guitar and mandolin and the lanai became our music room. As we suspected, we sound much better in Kauai;). We take coffee pretty seriously and brought a hand grinder and drip maker but it was unnecessary. There is a grinder and ceramic drip brewer here as well as two other coffee makers. We love cooking and great ingredients and were perfectly happy with what was provided and what could be found locally. The only possible thing you might want to bring if you are a foodie is a good knife. We did the walk to tunnels for some great snorkeling at least once a day. It's about a half mile and a good workout in the soft sand but totally doable.

Very comfortable! 20 minute walk to Tunnels, great bed, internet service works well. Lanais and living room very cozy for reading/chatting/watching movies.Appreciated the outdoor shower, laundry, and plenty of fans and lights.

Our stay at Hale Pua Kai was the highlight of our Kauai Vacation. We could not have asked for a more charming home in the islands. We did considerable research before choosing this rental property and Hale Pua Kai exceeded our expectations in every way.We loved the cozy, romantic feel of the house. The decor was utterly charming and very comfortable. We also loved the setting and proximity to Tunnels and Ke'e Beaches. The house was well equipped. The bed was incredibly comfy.We loved the outdoor shower. Enjoyed all the lovely porches and especially loved the greenery and peace and quiet. Such a lovely, comfortable retreat.
