And, the location, Anini Beach, is equally as choice because it's comfortably secluded with a wonderful bay, long sandy beaches, windsurfing & snorkeling. We were fortunate to stay once again at the Nakea Home. It truly feels like a cozy home, not an uptight rental. It honestly is one of the best stocked rental we've encountered...from coffee filters to beach gear, this home had it all!
The ocean view is seriously unforgettable. We can't wait to return!

This is the second time my husband and I have stayed in the former Judge Nakea's house. Unless we were in the water we were on that huge balcony overlooking the ocean. We made most of our meals and ate outside. We brought a fan outside so that kept us cool. And even with no air-conditioning, at night with a fan it was perfect and we even got chilled one or two nights. This is an old Hawaiian style house so don't expect a white walled hotel room. Every time I went snorkeling I saw huge sea turtles. The best snorkeling is down the beach around all the rocks. We would definitely stay here again.

This is our first stay at the Nakea Home. It has always been spoken for when we’ve tried to rent it.

We truly enjoyed every minute of our stay! It was just my husband and I so we had plenty of room both inside and out. The views were stunning and we appreciated the daily visits from the foilers (hydrofoil surfers).Sitting on the expansive lanai taking in the sights was such an amazing and relaxing treat!

The rental was well-kept and it honestly had everything we needed to feel right at home. It was a serene setting and we didn’t have to drive anywhere to treasure our 10 days on Kauai.

We will certainly return to this property in future visits to Kauai!

We got caught up in the Southwest debacle which cost us two days. I was hoping the rental co would be more understanding however, they gave me one extra day on the back end. The house is in a great location. Eating and relaxing on the lanai was perfect. The surf was high so swimming was two dangerous. The unfortunate thing was the amount of people living out of their cars up and down the beach. Every night 2-3 cars/vans would park in front for the night.

You awaken early too the musical rooster (we named him “Henry”), then drift back too sleep...as the sound of the surf reassures you that your going to experience another day on this beautiful island.

We had a wonderful stay. Lots of space and a nice private location. So great to walk a few feet and be at our own beach with no crowds. The place is easy to find and get into. Having laundry is a bonus.

We've stayed at the Nakea Home about a dozen times over the past 20+ years. That speaks for itself. If you're looking for a 5 star, Ritz Carlton experience this is not for you. If you're looking for hotel services, restaurants downstairs, people from your home town at the adjoining table, you might prefer Poipu Beach on the south shore. However, if you're hoping to escape the crowds, live down a dirt road about 25 yards from the ocean, and have one of the only 20'x20' lanai's (patio's) facing the ocean and just a 30 second walk to the beach right in front, this IS for you. I'm a big guy so my wife and I have asked them put the two twin beds together in the 2nd bedroom and we enjoy one large, roomy and comfortable sleep. Yes, you can Hear the ocean from anywhere in the house. Kitchen is modern and filled with everything you'd need except for the food. You're a 10 minute ride west to Kilauea which provides a "local" residential feel with a new and nice market, cafe, plus the age old Kilauea Bakery. A 10 minute ride going east gets you to Princeville with another supermarket, Lappert's Ice Cream (yes, to die for) some shops and a few restaurants. From there, you're 10 minutes down the hill from Hanalei which is one of the most beautiful beaches/bays on the planet. Lovely to sit on to watch or surf the bay, many shops and restaurants. From Hanalei, you drive west to the "end of the road" at another memorable beach (Ke'e). I'd be cautious about staying during the summer in the loft of the Nakea Home as it does get rather warm. The two downstairs bedrooms are comfortable. We love this house as the photo says it all---ocean just across the street on Anini Beach. By the way, Anini Beach has a fringing reef about 1/3d mile out from the shore so the water is usually very calm for accompanied children and adults. We wake up, make coffee, take a walk down the road or on the beach, ready to start the day. I would rate this property a 10! Total Aloha experience.

Unexpected bonuses

Just returned from a week on Anini. Our family of 9 rented both the house and the cottage behind. I can't begin to praise the location, amenities and the graciousness of the owners. My wife and I have rented dozens of houses in the years we have vacationed, these are at the top of the list. We ate most of our meals in the house and I was very impressed with all the kitchen offered including rice cooker, blender and quality cooking utensils. Dbl door fridge with ice maker and Bosch dishwasher were unexpected bonuses.
